Susan G. Komen for the Cure SWFL Affiliate has awarded Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. a grant in the amount of $140,395 for the upcoming fiscal year. This funding will provide screening and diagnostic breast care procedures in order to diagnose or rule out breast cancer for low-income, uninsured Lee County women and men. Thank you so much for supporting our mission and allowing us to continue saving lives in Lee County.

Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. would like to thank From Our Hearts, Inc. for their generosity and heartfelt concern for our community. Their donation of $20,000 will help to provide breast health care to the under served women and men of Pine Island, Matlacha and North Cape Coral. During the last fiscal year we provided care for 169 residents from these areas. Of these, 3 were diagnosed with breast cancer and we covered the cost for 266 diagnostic treatments. From Our Hearts, Inc. is compassionate about saving lives in our community. Much thanks goes out to those who have devoted their time and effort in order for PfBCC to follow our mission to save lives in Lee County.

The quilt drawing was held on May 31, 2011 at Hope Hospice. Frank Pinto of Cape Coral won the quilt for his wife, Jenny. Although she is not a breast cancer survivor, she has many friends who have battled the disease. The ticket was purchased at I.M.A. in Cape Coral. We thank all of the facilities who helped Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. by displaying the 2011 quilt "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" throughout Lee County. All proceeds from the quilt ticket sales will help to provide breast health care to low-income, uninsured women and men in our community.

Superstar Quilt Winner

superstar quilt winnerThis is the 10th year that Shari Thompson, Jeanne Mapes and Crystal Caserta have collaborated to design and create a special quilt to be raffled for Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. in Lee County. This year's quilt, "Superstar", was revealed at the "Ladies Night Out" event at Harborside in October. Tickets are sold throughout the year at local businesses, medical offices and Radiology Regional Center. The fabric for the quilt was donated by Florida Neurology Group and The Quit Lovers Hangout did the actual quilting. The quilt events have raised nearly $60,000 for Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc., a non-profit agency that pays for breast health care for low-income, uninsured Lee County women and men.

The Superstar quilt winner is Linda Horseman. She has lived in Lee County for 11 years. Linda attended the "Ladies Night Out" event and purchased quilt tickets in honor of her aunt and best friend, who are breast cancer survivors. "I never knew there are so many with breast cancer, so I really thought the get together was a wake up call" said Linda.

Partners for Breast Cancer Care, Inc. helped 1,451 women and men in the past 12 months to receive mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and surgeries. The organization thrives on donations and grants only; no governmental funds. Director, Janet Darnell, says their statistics have doubled from the previous year and donations are becoming more difficult to secure. Susan G. Komen for the Cure SWFL Affiliate and the United Way are supporters, as well as local community foundations. Ms. Darnell hopes more community members will consider donating to the organization in order to continue serving the need in Lee County.
